A Curtiss Aluminum Propeller Blade M1974, ca. 1929.
With original crate and packing list. According to packing list, this propeller was ordered from the War Department 8/27/29 by Heraclio Alfaro (1893-1962) to be used in Cleveland, Ohio's inaugural Air Race in 1929.
This propeller was used on Plane #4 U.S. Navy's Curtiss F6C6 piloted by Commander J.J. Clark (1893-1971) which came in 4th place with a top speed of 153.38 miles per hour.
With two "Remove before Flight" ribbons.

Heraclio Alfaro (1893-1962) was chair of Case Western's new department of Aeronautical engineering from 1929-1932.
Joseph J. "Jocko" Clark (1893-1971) who piloted the plane for the inaugural race for the U.S. Navy would go on to become the Commander for the USS Yorktown. He also served in the Korean War and was finally promoted to Admiral in 1953.
Prop was stored at Ingalls Field in a hangar in Hunting Valley, Ohio. Found in the rafters at the field in the hangar.
