American Chippendale Mahogany Slant Lid Desk, Circa, 1760-1790,
With fluted quarter columns flanking four graduated drawers, below a fitted interior with two tiers of four dove-tailed drawers surmounted by six shaped pigeon holes, two flaming fluted columns, Hidden document drawers separated by a single arched panel door opening to two secret puzzle drawers (replaced, not original.) Bat wing brasses are of the period, small brass knobs are 20th C., as well as desk lid hinges. Original pine back boards. Glue blocks have been reinforced, one block replaced. Original finish has been stripped. Key works in desk lid but not drawers.

Joint separation to bracket feet. Stains, scuffs, scratches. Sun bleaching to finish. Cracks and losses to drawer edges on face of drawer. All four feet have been cut down. Hinges moved and replaced.
