Brunton Pocket Transit, 20th Century. Set of 4 books on surveying.
In a case, marked "D. W. Brunton's Pocket Transit Trade Mark Reg. US Pat Off." and Wm. Ainsworth & Sons, Denver, CO. and No. 82034.

Books include: CLARKE, A. (1793-1847), Geodesy (1880); BREED, Charles (1876-1958) and HOSMER, George (1874-1935), Surveying (2 vols., 1936 and 1962); CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY, Students Field Book (1909).

Each book is approximately 500 pp., with illustrations. Vol. 2 of Breed and Hosmer includes pocket color map and 3-D glasses.

Largest book is H: 9 x W: 6 x D: 1 1/4 in.

Transit is H: 1 1/2 x W: 3 x D: 3 in. Fair. Magnetic compass still accurate to approximately +/- 2 degrees. Clinometer still moves with ease. Breed and Hosmer books in fair condition, with slight rubbing and bumping. Clarke book is in fair to poor condition, with spine binding separating at top, with some losses, and corners bumped and scuffed, and toning and foxing to front and back flyleaves.

Field book is annotated and sketched in, as part of surveyor's class from 1909 by John Wyllie.
