A Culper-Type Compound Monocular Microscope, Attributed to Matthew Loft, Mid 18th Century,
Unsigned. With ebonized and turned wood ocular support. Green leather draw tube with tooled gilt lining, grey rayskin outer tube, supported by three brass columns above a scalloped curved stage with concave mirror. Lacking bull's eye condenser, with rotating specimen holder, mounted on a molded octagonal oak and stained wood box with single drawer. Condition

Trim elements on wooden box replaced. Wear is consistent with age and use. All lots have imperfections or the effects of aging. Gray's Auctioneers shall have no responsibility for any errors or omissions.
