Karl Allen Umlauf was a nationally recognized artist known for abstract work, with works held by more than 40 museums and public collections including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He was honored by the Texas Commission on the Arts as Texas State Visual Artist in 2012. He was also a gifted educator, serving as Professor of Art at Texas A&M for more than 20 years and was the Artist-in-Residence at Baylor University from 1989 - 2015.
