Our first timed auction of the year, features voluminous volumes and curious curiosities. Lot 126, Tielke's volume on the war between the Prussians, Austrians, and Russians, is from the Library of Thomas Howard, the British deserter and United States supporter. Lot 53 isJohn Greaves volume on the history of English weights and measures. Lot 1 is an Andreas Vogler sundial and compass. Lot 7 is a Young & Sons transit and tripod. Whether lost in a book or lost in the woods, there is something to keep the thrill of discovery alive in this short, sweet, auction.

Set of 3 books on Hawaii and Spanish American War territorial acquisitions, with 5 magic lantern slides of Manilla, New Zealand, and Bali.
Books include: WHITE, Trumbull, Our New Possessions (1898); MUSICK, John, Hawaii...Our New Possessions (1898); ANDERSON, Rufus, The Hawaiian Islands: Their Progress and Condition under Missionary Labors (1865).

WHITE book: 2 frontispiece plates, 676 pp., with plates. 4to. Green cloth bound, with gilt and painted cover.

ANDERSON book: 8vo. Black cloth bound, with embossed borders and cover. with blue top edge. fontispiece, xxii, folding chart, 450 pp., with plates, with index.

MUSICK book:8vo. Half bound red leather and black cloth boards. Gilt edges. Frontispiece, xxii, 524 pp., with chart of Hawaiian islands, with index.
With magic lantern slides in wood depicting a Balinese Cock Fight, people in Manilla, and Maori people in New Zealand.

Largest volume is H: 8 3/4 x W: 6 3/8 x D: 2 in. Fair to poor. Books are scuffed, bumped, and rubbed, with slight losses to corners. Spine of ANDERSON torn, with losses to head. Toning throughout, with ink inscriptions. White is scuffed, torn, rubbed, and bumped, with rebinding to spine and handwritten label.

Magic lantern slides in fair condition.
