Our first timed auction of the year, features voluminous volumes and curious curiosities. Lot 126, Tielke's volume on the war between the Prussians, Austrians, and Russians, is from the Library of Thomas Howard, the British deserter and United States supporter. Lot 53 isJohn Greaves volume on the history of English weights and measures. Lot 1 is an Andreas Vogler sundial and compass. Lot 7 is a Young & Sons transit and tripod. Whether lost in a book or lost in the woods, there is something to keep the thrill of discovery alive in this short, sweet, auction.

Set of 7 Architecture books.
Books include: BIRD, James AND NORMAN, Philip, Survey of London Volume VI: Parish of Hammersmith (1915); SHEPERD, Thomas, London in the Nineteenth Century (1829); Richardson, A. E. AND GILL, C. Lovett, Regional Architecture of the West of England (1924); SHAW, Edward, The Modern Architect (1855); NICHOLSON, Peter, Practical Carpentry, revised by Thomas Tredgold (N.D., 3 vols.).

Each volume is 4to, approximately 130 pp., with many folding plates.

Largest volume is H: 11 3/8 x W: 9 3/8 x D: 1 3/8 in. Poor to fair. SHAW and Nicholson vols. both rebound. Pages have significant toning. Covers and spines bumped, scuffed, and rubbed, with slight losses. Water damage and browning to SHEPERD, with ink inscription on front flyleaf: "A. [Illegible], Lieut. R.A.F. Cheltenham Aug. 5th 1918." Head of spine of SHEPERD lacking above ruled title. Map in sleeve of rear board of BIRD and NORMAN in good condition. Nicholson vols. stamp: "Library Cleveland School of Art."
