A Burke & James Ideal Flash Gun, Late 19th Century,
A flash gun in original cardboard box. Flash gun is fashioned from copper with silver-tone metal accents.

Marked: Burke and James, Ideal.

Instructions from box: Pull back the plunger by means of the projecting lever until it catches. Raise the scratching spring by mans of knob and insert match in tube. See that the match goes in far enough so that the head will be inside the scratcher.

Next put Flash Powder in pan and ignite by pulling the trigger. To eject burned match, lift spring again and allow match to fall baack into tube, first pulling back lever as before, keeping spring raised with forefinger and thumb of one hand and shoot ut match by releasing trigger with forefinger of the other.

Box measures: H: 1 x W: 10 1/2 x D: 2 3/4 in.

Areas of wear, damage and repairs to cardboard box. Areas of loss and corrosion to metal. All lots have imperfections or the effects of aging. Gray's Auctioneers shall have no responsibility for any errors or omissions.
