An epitome of cronicles: Conteyninge the whole discourse of the histories as well of this realme of England, as al other cou[n]treys, with the succession of their kinges, the time of their reigne, and what notable actes they did ... gathered out of most probable auctours. Firste by Thomas Lanquet, from the beginning of the worlde to the incarnacion of Christe, secondely to the reigne of our soueraigne lord king Edward the sixt by Thomas Cooper, and thirdly to the reigne of our soueraigne Ladye Quene Elizabeth, by Robert Crowley. Anno. 1559.


28], 181, 181-280, [26] leaves. With decorative and illustrative initials.

Colophon reads: Imprinted at London by VVilliam Seres at the weste ende of Paules towards Ludgate at the signe of the Hedgehogge and are there to be solde. 1559. The. v. day of Apryll.

Bound in mottles leather, decorative girl borders, raised bands, red leather spine label, gilt spine title.


H: 7 1/2 W: 5 3/4 in.

With copious marginal notes. With bookplate, “George Harrison,” on front pastedown endpapers; with “Discovery of America see page 269,” in pencil on front free endpaper; with “George Willinham 1636,” in ink under colophon. With text in ink in verso on p. [26], “ In ego non….” Multiple other instances of old ink marginalia.

Condition

Good. Spine split the volume in two at p.117. L. 128 torn, missing text, tear to head of text. Some marginal damp staining throughout.
