A Louis XV Palace Sized Wrought Iron and Parcel Gilt Marble Top Console, 18th Century.


Having grey rouge and ochre marble above a conformingly shaped geometric frieze centered by a gilt floral and leaf motif, flanked by four supporting open work, serpentine and scrolling legs, adorned with gilt foliate and floral leaves mounted to the upper sides of the legs, which terminate in scrolled foliate wrapped feet, joined by a scrolling rear stretcher, topped with a Demilune metal shelf.

Family folklore comports this table comes from Marie Antoinette's own collection.

Multiple campaigns of restoration to marble and lower console. Marble top has museum quality restoration to multiple cracks to top. Console has been sandblasted, original black finish removed, gilt elements have been re-gilt and re-mounted to legs with an adhesive putty. See photo.
