Two jar and cover-type tea caddies Rococo style with all-over floral, leaf and strapwork designs in relief.


Both marked Leitão & Ir/ LISBOA; Leitão maker’s mark of a sphinx lying down over an L; a standing boar I - the Portugese .916 silver standard mark; L TITULO.

Condition

Lids are unmarked. Tip of leaf design just below lids are lifting in two places on each caddy. Tarnished and wear. Maker's marks are rubbed.

In 1908, Elizabeth Shindler Stetson, widow of John B. Stetson, Sr. of the Stetson Hat Company, married Aleixo de Queiroz Ribeiro, Count of Santa Eulalia, (1868-1917), a Portuguese sculptor and nobleman, making her the Countess of Santa Eulalia. Thence by descent in the family.
