The Gray's December Fine Antiques, Art and Decorations Auction features a rare Federal Cylinder Desk and Bookcase from Bankson and Lawson, Baltimore, created between 1785 - 1792, along with many other intriguing antiques, several 16th C - 19th C paintings by Flemish, Dutch and German artists and numerous silver, gilt and bronze decorations. Wonderful rugs, Ogee and tall case clocks, architectural elements and a large taxidermy Marlin round out this compelling end of year auction.

The first, contayning the voyages and peregrinations made by ancient kings, patriarkes, apostles, philosophers, and others, to and thorow the remoter parts of the knowne world: enquiries also of languages and religions, especially of the moderne diuersified professions of Christianitie. The second, a description of all the circum-nauigations of the globe. The third, nauigations and voyages of English-men, alongst the coasts of Africa ... The fourth, English voyages beyond the East Indies, to the ilands of Iapan, China, Cauchinchina, the Philippinæ[32]with others ... The fifth, nauigations, voyages, traffiques, discoueries, of the English nation in the easterne parts of the world ...

London : Printed by William Stansby for Henrie Fetherstone, and are to be sold at his shop in Pauls Church-yard at the signe of the Rose, 1625-1626.

5 volumes. With decorative initials and vignettes, marginals notes, maps and plates.

With Volume 5 titled Purchas His Pilgrimage or Relations of the World and was created as a separate work to recount the various religions around the world.

Bound in speckled leather, red leather spine labels, gilt spine title, speckled edges.


H: 13 W: 8 1/2 in. Poor to Fair. With covers of Vols. 2 and 4 detached, spines pulled away in places, covers, edges, and corners bumped and rubbed. Spine label of Vol. 4 detached. Lacks engraved t.p., lacks double-page folding engraved map of "Virginia" by John Smith along with others as listed. Volumes with variable bindings.
With letter from the British Museum, 16th August, 1960, laid in.
