Rare Meissen Brühlsches Allerlei Porcelain Tureen, ca. 1743-46,
This Rococo soup tureen was made by the German porcelain manufactory ca.1742/1743. Typical of the Rococo period, it has a curvy form with C scrolls, rocaille, diapered border with shells and basketweave designs in relief. Handles are in the form of lemons and asparagus and have a lid finial in the form of an artichoke. Hand painted details include floral bouquets, wheat sheaf, pea pods and pears. Bears crossed swords of Meissen on underside and Sotheby's labels.

H: 11 1/2 W: 13 1/2 D: 8 in.

Cf. Bodinek, Ein Meissener Porzellanservice für den Graf - Das Brühl'sche Allerlei, in: Keramos 235/236/2017, pp. 126 f.

The "Brühlsche Allerlei" was produced by the Meissen manufactory for Count Heinrich Brühl (1700 - 1763), Saxon Prime Minister and Chief Inspector of the porcelain manufactory. The service has been attributed to Johann Friedrich Eberlein and Johann Gottlieb Ehder, who may have modelled the service. Multiple areas of restoration to chips under the lid rim; section where the brown pear is located has been rebuilt and repainted. The interior of the tureen has restoration paint residue losses and scratches, not stable. There is a through hairline crack about 1 inch from the lid rim. A protruding green leaf at the handle has been reproduced. Areas of regilding throughout.
