London: Printed for James Allestry, printer to the Royal Society, and are to be sold at his shop, at the Rose and Crown in Duck-Lane, MDCLXVII [1667].

Micrographia, or, Some physiological descriptions of minute bodies made by magnifying glasses: with observations and inquiries thereupon, by R. Hooke, Fellow of the Royal Society.


[36], 246, [10] pages, XXXVIII leaves of plates (some folded). With errata.

Bound in mottled leather with gilt borders, raised bands, decorative gilt panels, red gilt spine label.

H: 12 W: 8 1/4 in.

With bill of sale laid in. "Note this copy of the Micrographia originally belonged to the microscope dealer & scholar Court Clay…. Supposedly was under one post of Court’s bed when Harold Heywood found it."

With, "Ar Sutter" [?] in ink on front free endpaper; and, "P.E.V. de Cr [?]" in ink within printer’s device on t.p.

Condition

Very good. Binding splayed, inside hinges repaired, front endpaper with slight water damage, Plate XXXIII with slight tear, Plate XXXV (large folded plate) with two small tears. Some plates bound out of order (Plate XVI bound after Plate XXI; Plate XXIV bound after Plate XXV).
