The Monarch Ethopticon Bi-Unial Magic Lantern, 19th century, manufactured by the Riley Brothers of Bradford & New York.
Mahogany, metal, and brass body with two 9 3/4 in. condensing lenses, one limelight illuminant, and a modern black metal, brass, and copper chimney.
Measurements: H:32 x L:26 x W:10 1/2 in.
Missing case, missing lower mounting plate nut and bolt on lens. No visible cracks or deep scratches on the lenses, nor is there separation, discoloration or distortion. Light fogging and the lenses are a bit cloudy, but could be remedied with cleaning. Rack and pinion focus adjustors are stiff, but they do function. All lots have imperfections or the effects of aging. Gray's Auctioneers shall have no responsibility for any errors or omissions.
